Two Indonesian Famous Words

Well.. this time I don’t want to talk about celebrities. I am a bit bored over the celebrities’ scandals and issues ha-ha-ha. I want to talk about two Indonesian popular phrases instead. These phrases are often being used by people in social media. They are ‘Nyinyir’ and ‘Menye’. I feel that those phrase are interesting to be talked about because the words are so cute somehow they don’t really have a good meaning.

‘Nyinyir’ means cynic. It is the way a person criticizes the other person without mentioning that criticized person’s name or I can say that it talks about people behind their back. Usually a person ‘Nyinyirin’ the other person because there was something bad that caught his/her attention that made him/her really want to give a cynical comment.

Meanwhile, ‘Menye’ means melancholic. Sometimes ‘Menye’ is symbolized with an emoticon “:3”. People use ‘Menye’ to express the weakness. It also symbolized a very cute and childlike wonder girl but it can also refer to a boy. However “Menye” often used by people in social media for joking around with their friends because it such a cute word, not for a serious conversation.

Here are some screen shots from twitter about ‘Nyinyir’ and ‘Menye’. Check these out! ^^
